How To Play Cards Against Humanity Game

Setup Of Cards Against Humanity Game

Each player draws 10 White Cards to begin the Cards Against Humanity Game.

Cards Against Humanity Game Play

As the Card Czar, one randomly selected player first plays a Black Card. The Black Card’s query or fill-in-the-blank sentence is read out by the Card Czar. Passing one White Card, face down, to the Card Czar, the rest of the group provides their response to the query or fills in the blank.

The Card Czar distributes each card combination to the group after shuffling all of the responses. The Card Czar should often read the Black Card again before providing each solution to ensure maximum impact.

The Card Czar then selects a favorite, and whoever provided that response is awarded one Awesome Point in addition to the Black Card. Everyone draws up to ten White Cards again after the round, and a new player is named the Card Czar.

Pick 2s

On the bottom of some cards, it says “Pick 2”. Each player uses two White Cards in combination to respond to these. The sequence is important, so play them in the order that the Card Czar should read them.

You may use paper clips to hold the cards in the proper sequence if the Card Czar has lobster claws for hands.

Gambling

You can wager one of your Awesome Points to play one more White Card if a Black Card is played and you believe more than one White Card might win.

You preserve your point if you prevail. If you lose, the round’s victor receives the point you bet.

Playing the Game

Cards Against Humanity Game

Draw ten white cards each

You can only look at your own hand of cards. Leave the rest of the white “answer” cards and black “question” cards separated into face-down stacks.

  • You need at least four players to play Cards Against Humanity Game. There’s no upper limit to how many people can play, but it’s most fun with 6–8 players.
  • If you don’t already own Cards Against Humanity, you can find a deck from Amazon.

Play the first black card

The first “Card Czar” is, according to the official regulations, the “person who most recently pooped.” (This may provide you with some insight on the nature of the game.) If you’d rather, the individual who has the following birthday after that can go first. The top card in the black “questions” stack is revealed by that player to begin the round. Leave the card on the table face up after reading it aloud.

Have each other player choose a white answer card

Every time a player selects a card from their hand, the Card Czar waits. The objective is to choose the answer that the Card Czar will find funniest or most amusing in response to the black question Cards Against Humanity Game. In a face-down pile, arrange the white cards you’ve chosen.

  • If the black card says “Pick 2,” choose two white cards from your hand. Keep them in the order the Czar should read them.

Shuffle and read aloud the answer cards

Now that the white response cards have been picked up and shuffled, nobody can tell which card was placed where. Before reading the white cards one at a time and setting them face up on the table, reread the black response card.

Choose the best answer

The Card Czar selects their preferred response to the query. The participant who used the winning card is awarded one “Awesome Point.” Giving the winning player the black question card is the simplest way to keep track of points.

  • All players can talk while the Card Czar is deciding, and try to influence the decision.
  • Set aside all the white cards from that round into a discard pile.

Start the next round

Each player draws back up to ten white cards. The person sitting to the Card Czar’s left becomes the Czar for the next round, picking a new black card.

  • Alternatively, you can appoint whoever won the last round as the new Czar. This doesn’t work well if there’s a newcomer in the group, since it’s harder to win rounds if you don’t know the Czar’s style of humor.

Play until you’re sick of it

People frequently play until they become bored with this game because it is informal and non-competitive. Play until one person receives five points (or seven to ten for a lengthier game) if you like a more clearly defined finish point. At game’s conclusion, the player with the most points wins.

  • One fun way to end the game is to use the “haiku” black card for the final round. You don’t need to find the actual card: it just says “Make a haiku.” The other players each choose three cards from their hand to use as an answer.
  • Some players stop drawing new Cards Against Humanity Game when they announce the end, but keep playing until they run out of cards. This leads to (even more) absurd nonsense answers.

House Rules

Happy Ending

Play the “Make a Haiku” Black Card when you’re ready to put the Cards Against Humanity Game to a conclusion. Cards Against Humanity’s official ceremonial ending, this card should only be used at the very end of a good game. (Note: The 5-7-5 format is not required for haikus. Simply read them out loud dramatically.

The Stepto Maneuver

Players can always return as many White Cards as they like to the deck and draw up to ten more by exchanging an Awesome Point for them.

Packing Heat

All players draw an additional card before playing the hand in Pick 2s to give themselves more alternatives.
