Domestic Career

Pat Cummins started his junior cricket days by playing for the Glenbrook Cricket Club. He then made his entry in first-class cricket in 2010, playing for Penrith.

The 2010-11 season was the best season for his domestic cricket, and he emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the T20 Big Bash League 2010. In March 2011, he made his first-class debut in a match against Tasmania, where he took his maiden four-wicket haul.

IPL career

Owning to his sheer pace and the ability to hit the deck consistently, Pat Cummins was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. however, injuries and lack of opportunities meant that he played only 4 games throughout the next two seasons.

The Aussie bowler was then bough by Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2017. Cummins played 12 games and picked up 17 wickets. However, he became the most expensive buy in the 2020 IPL Auction after being bagged by KKR for a whopping 15.50 crores (AUD 3.17 million). It is back to purple and gold for pacer Cummins.

Test Career

Cummins made his debut in Test cricket at an extremely young age of 18, a feat very few people have achieved so far. When Cummins debuted in Test cricket against South Africa in 2011, people expected too much from him. But he didn’t let those people down and bagged the Man of the Match award in his first test. Cummins took 1/38 and 6/79, becoming the second-youngest Test cricketer (behind Enamul Haque Jr.) to take six wickets in an innings.

However, the gritty paceman had to wait six years for his next appearance as injuries struck a fragile body that could not withstand the rigours of international cricket. After battling his mental demons and health-fitness issues, Pat Cummins made a comeback in 2017 when he was picked for the 2017 tour of India. And he looked a class apart as a much leaner, meaner and fitter.

Later he got the nod for the all-important Ashes series at home in 2017-18. It was the ideal opportunity to make a statement, and Cummins didn’t let it go. He had an excellent series, often claiming crucial breakthroughs and also made invaluable contributions with the bat. Australia regained the urn, and the cricketing world was convinced that Cummins was here to stay for long.

Since the 2017 season, Cummins has been the first pick on the Australian Test side. While his compatriots like Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and James Pattinson have been troubled by injuries, Cummins has virtually remained injury-free.

He also played in the two Tests of the 2018–19 Sri Lanka tour of Australia and was the chief architect of Australia’s innings win over Sri Lanka in the 1st Test at The Gabba with his maiden 10-wicket haul. He finished the series with 14 wickets and was named the Man of the series.

ODI Career

Pat Cummins made his ODI debut against the same opponent as his Test opponent South Africa on 19 October 2011. He continued to play here and there, but injuries kept him out of action.

Cummins was part of the title-winning Australian squad of 2015 but played just two Match (where he did well) for recurring injury concerns and other reasons.

In 2019, he was selected for the ODI series against India. He took 0-48 in the 10 overs in the first ODI, whereas in the second ODI, he took 4-29. However, in the 4th ODI, Cummins claimed his best bowling figures in an ODI with 5/70 that restricted India to 358/9.

On 29 February 2020, Cummins took his 100th wicket in ODI cricket in the first match against South Africa.
