On October 8th, 2021, Brevis made his T20 debut for the South-Africa Under-19s in the CSA Provincial T20 Knock-Out tournament.

He impressed the selectors with his excellent strokeplay and hard-hitting and was named to South Africa’s team for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies in November 2021.

Brevis scored 65 against India, a century against Uganda, a 96 against Ireland, a 97 against England, and an incredible 138 against Bangladesh.

The media started comparing Dewald and AB Devilliers, calling him “Baby AB” and “AB Devilliers 2.0”.

Despite Proteas colts being knocked out of the World Cup before the knockout stages, the 18-year-old ended the tournament as the leading run-scorer. 

Brevis scored a whopping 506 runs in just six games, at an average of 84.33. He now holds the record of scoring the most runs in a single edition of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup and was named the Player of the Tournament. 

Previously, this record was held by India’s Shikhar Dhawan when he scored 505 runs back in the 2004 World Cup.

Dewald was purchased by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL mega auctions of 2022 for a staggering amount of INR 3 crore, thanks to his big-hitting abilities.
