Sofia Vergara Biography
Sofia Vergara, a Colombian-American actress born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on July 10, 1972, is arguably best known for her work in the television series Modern Family (2009–20).
When Vergara was 17 years old, she happened to run into a photographer on a beach in Colombia and decided to pursue modelling instead of a future in dentistry.
Until 1998, when her brother was killed and her family moved to Miami, she also presented Colombian TV shows. She began getting modest roles in American movies and TV series while hosting the game show A que no te atreves (I Dare You) in Spanish.
She was one of the four main characters in the romantic comedy Chasing Papi (2003), but the parts she went on to land after that mainly were supporting ones that emphasised her good features.
Before playing Mama Morton in the 2009 Broadway revival of Chicago, Vergara had supporting roles in the comedies Meet the Browns (2008) and the crime film Four Brothers (2005).
The same year, Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, a much younger wife of a guy with two children close in age—a daughter with a conventional nuclear family of her own and a gay son with a male partner and an adoptive daughter—became a member of the cast of Modern Family. This was Vergara’s big break. Gloria also had a little boy from a previous marriage.
Viewers connected with the antics of the unconventional family, and the show quickly gained popularity and praise. Vergara received four Emmy nominations for her work as an outstanding supporting actress in a comedy (2010–13). In 2020, Modern Family came to an end after 11 seasons.
As the show’s breakout star, Vergara received other film offers and appeared in films like Machete Kills (2013), Hot Pursuit (2015), and Bottom of the 9th (2019), which starred her husband, Joe Manganiello (married 2015). Vergara also contributed a voice to the animated comedy The Emoji Movie (2017). She became a judge on the reality competition programme America Got Talent in 2020.
She also frequently appeared in tabloids and celebrity blogs as the uncommon late-thirties female sex icon to emerge on the world scene. Vergara also demonstrated her commercial acumen by using her ubiquity as a celebrity to help Latin World Entertainment, a talent management company she cofounded in 1994, become one of the world’s most significant Hispanic media marketing firms.
Vergara acquired American citizenship in 2014. She received recognition the following year with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
