The business acquired notoriety in 2006 for incredible sports memorabilia, including a Super Bowl ring. They assisted traders who pawned items for gas money as well. Harrison claims that in 2010 jewelry was the item that was pawned the most frequently at the store.

After his store was highlighted on Insomniac with Dave Attell in 2003, Harrison spent 4 years pitching the idea of a pawn shop reality program. In 2008, Leftfield Pictures requested his advice for a production with a Las Vegas setting. Nancy Dubuc of the History Channel changed the format to include specialists evaluating items and focusing on the workers and customers of the market.

Harrison, his father Richard (who died away in 2018), Corey, and Austin “Chumlee” Russell all appear on the show, which has been rebranded Pawn Stars. A popular History Channel program that ranked second among reality shows in January 2011 was Pawn Stars. Harrison, the star of the program, published a jubilant autobiography titled License to Pawn, which debuted at number 22 on The New York Times Best Seller list.
