Virat Kohli’s recent mic outburst in Ind vs SA 3rd test match has gone viral on social media and has attracted several opinions, one being of Gautam Gambhir. South Africa was playing at 60/1 when Ashwin bowled a flighted delivery Dean Elgar. Elgar missed this straight ball that got wrapped on the pads.
Umpire Marais Erasmus ruled that out but the SA skipper requested a review. Upon review, the third umpire Allahudien Palekar changed the decision as the ball was going on top of the leg stump.
This came as a blow to the Indian team as a consequence of which, they became furious since it did not look like the ball would go on to miss the stumps. The entire team started passing comments including KL Rahul, “Whole country is playing against 11 guys”. Amidst this wave of disbelief, the captain of the Indian Team, Virat Kohli, went to the stump mic and said, “Focus on your team while they shine the ball. Not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time.”
It is this comment from the captain Virat Kohli that faced criticism from a lot of people. Taking a stand on the matter, Gautam Gambhir told Star Sports, “This is really bad. What Kohli did, going near the stump mic and reacting in that matter, is really immature.
This is not what you expect from an international captain, from an Indian captain Virat Kohli.” Extending his words, “No matter what you say, stuff like he plays with his heart on his sleeve, this reaction was an exaggerated one and you can’t be a role model in this manner. No budding cricketers would want to see this kind of reaction, especially from the Indian captain,” “No matter the result in this Test match, this is not what you expect from a Test Captain who has led the team for so long.
I hope Rahul Dravid has a word with him because the type of captain Dravid was, he would have never reacted in this manner.”
Though it is clear that the whole team was under immense pressure to break off the partnership, yet, according to a popular opinion, Virat Kohli’s opinion was something that was inappropriate. Despite all this, The Test match has come to an interesting position and no one can predict a winner as of Day 4.
