Career

In July 2009, Glenn Maxwell’s professional cricket career started when he joined the ‘Victoria’ state team.

In January 2010, he played in the ‘Hong Kong Cricket Sixes’ tournament and the ‘Emerging Players Tournament’ for the Australian Institute of Sports. In February 2011, he made his first-class debut playing for ‘Victoria’ against ‘NSW.’ He became an overnight sensation when he hit the fastest-50 in Australian domestic One-Day Cricket during the ‘Ryobi One-Day Cup.’

In 2012, he played two games in the IPL for ‘Delhi Daredevils’ and club cricket for English team ‘South Wilts’ and ‘Hampshire Second XI’. He also played in the ‘ICC World Twenty20’ that year. He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan during Australia’s UAE tour and T20I debut against Pakistan.

In March 2013, he made his test debut against India. He joined the ‘Mumbai Indians in the IPL that year and played in the ‘2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

In 2014, he delivered outstanding performances for his IPL team, ‘Kings XI Punjab’. His form dived into a test series in UAE against Pakistan, but he had better luck in the ODIs. He continued his top-class performance in the ‘2014 ICC World Twenty20′. In 2015, despite his bad form, he was selected for Australia’s ‘2015 ICC Cricket World Cup squad, where he broke made the heads turn with his explosive batting. In the World Cup, he scored a 51-ball century against Sri Lanka at the SCG; it is the fastest century by Australian in ODIs and the second-fastest in World Cup history. However, in the IPL that year, he failed to impress and was eventually dropped from ‘Kings XI Punjab’.

After playing club cricket in England for some time, in the 2015-16 season, Maxwell played ODIs against India, New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa in various international tournaments.

In 2016, after sitting out the Test and ODI matches in Australia’s 2016 Sri Lanka tour, he scored an unbeaten 145 off 65 deliveries against Sri Lanka in a T20I match.

In March 2017, Glenn Maxwell scored his maiden test century against India in Ranchi amidst match-fixing allegations. He also became captain of ‘Kings XI Punjab’ in the 2017 IPL season but failed to mark. During the 2017-18 season, he delivered an outstanding performance in the ‘Big Bash League (BBL) season and helped Australia rack up a win in the ‘Trans-Tasman Tri-Series’ too. He also scored his maiden double century during the ‘Sheffield Shield’ competition in 2017. The ‘Delhi Daredevils’ picked him up for the 2018 IPL season for USD 1.75 million, but he did poorly. In April, he led Australia to a smashing victory over England in the ‘2018 Tri-Series. ‘Cricket Australia gave him a national contract for the 2018-19 season.

After 2017 match-fixing allegations resurfaced, he was dropped from Australia’s 2018 UAE test tour squad but was called in for the T20 matches.

In February 2019, he pulled off a stunning T20 victory for Australia against India with his knockout century and swashbuckling innings.

In March 2019, he played brilliantly during the Pakistan v/s Australia ODI series in UAE.

In April 2019, he was part of Australia’s ‘2019 Cricket World Cup’ squad. He currently plays for the English county cricket team Lancashire County Cricket Club and Melbourne Stars in the Australian Twenty20 competition and first-class Cricket for Victoria.
