The Case for a Sci-Fi RPG in CD Projekt Red’s New IP

Not just the video game Cyberpunk 2077 but also CD Projekt Red, the company that created it, is enjoying renewed fame. The business is eager to take advantage of this momentum, recently disclosing many important details during an investor meeting. In addition to confirming that a true sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 was being created, CD Projekt Red also stated that it was working on a new Witcher tale.

The most exciting news is that CD Projekt Red is developing a brand-new IP called Hadar. Although specific information was withheld, CD Projekt Red stated that fans shouldn’t anticipate any significant “surprises” from the IP because it is still in the very early stages of conception. This implies that CD Projekt Red intends to play to its strengths and that the game will be another open-world RPG. That’s ideal for the developer, but given that, there is a compelling argument that it ought to be a sci-fi game.

Using the New IP, CD Projekt Red Must Increase Its Strengths

Whatever Project Hadar ends up being, it will undoubtedly be compared to the Witcher 3, the upcoming Witcher games, Cyberpunk 2077, and, of course, depending on when each of those releases occurs, possibly even Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel.

Yes, there is competition from games like the impending Mass Effect 4 from BioWare and Starfield from Bethesda, but this new IP is most likely years away. Again, it’s expected that the Cyberpunk sequel will start before it is released, as the new Witcher series will. There is room in the market for different sci-fi role-playing games, and that statement will be even more true in the future.

Furthermore, CD Projekt Red claims that this original IP was created entirely from scratch. Therefore it is not based on any already-existing properties like The Witcher or Cyberpunk. The moment has come for the company to grow its library, and in doing so, with its present selection of titles, it should aim high.
