SriyaLenka 18, Becomes India’s First K-Pop Star
SriyaLenka, an 18-year-old from Odisha, has made history as India’s first K-pop performer. MsLenka, along with Gabriela Dalcin of Brazil, has been chosen to be a member of the Korean pop band Blackswan.
DR Music, Blackswan’s label, announced the news on Instagram. “After participating in the global audition programme for the last 6 months, Sriya and Gabi were eventually picked as members of blackswan,” DR Music stated in a statement.
In the year 2020, Blackswan made its appearance. Youngheun, Fatou, Judy, Leia, Sriya, and Gabi are the current members of the group.
SriyaLenka was born in Rourkela in 2003, according to The News Insight. She has studied Hindustani classical dance as well as Odissi and other contemporary dance genres.
“I had a hard time finding the perfect vocal coach because I had a deep voice. My grandmother assisted me in locating one “Odisha Bytes cited the person as saying.
“She arranged for me to have twice-weekly lessons with a Hindustani classical music master. However, I had to rely on internet videos and self-study for the western songs “SriyaLenka said.
Last year, the Rourkela child was one of the finalists chosen to train with Blackswan in Seoul. After the group’s eldest member, Hyeme, left in November 2020, the search for the fifth member began.
DR Music announced a global tryout to replace Hyeme in May of last year. From a pool of 4,000 candidates, Sriya Lanka and Gabriela Dalcin were picked as finalists.
Ms. Lenka and Ms. Dalcin were originally intended to be introduced as a single member, but Blackswan has chosen to induct both of them.
“We’ll be back with the new blackswan after their debut,” DR Music wrote on Instagram.
Ms. Lenka and Ms. Dalcin will be practising in Seoul for the next few months SriyaLenka. The two have been put through a rigorous training programme that includes everything from regular voice, rap, and dance instruction to personal development, language, and musical instrument lessons for the last five months.
