How To Play Cornhole Game: A Complete Step By Step Guide

Cornhole Game — One of the most well-liked lawn games in America is the bean bag throw, also known as bags, bag toss, corn toss, bean toss and other names. It may be played one-on-one or in two teams of two players with a total of two or four players. Players take turns attempting tossing bean bags onto the board for one point or through the “cornhole” for three points.

Cornhole Game Equipment

To play Cornhole Game, you simply need the following:

  • Boards: identical planks measuring two feet by four feet with a hole nine inches from the top that is six inches in diameter. A slanted surface is created when the folding legs on most Cornhole Game boards are opened. The playing surface of each board should be three to four inches from the front ground and twelve inches from the rear ground.
  • Bags: Eight total bean bags — 4 of one colour and 4 of the other. The bags have to measure six by six inches and weigh between 15 and 16 ounces. Consider purchasing bags that can withstand continuous usage and storage made of tough materials.

Make sure to double-verify before purchasing because many cornhole games come with cornhole bags already included. Licenced cornhole decals with your favourite team’s insignia may give your boards some individuality and are a terrific addition for tailgate gatherings.

Setup & Gameplay

The boards must be 27 feet apart and should be facing one another when measured from the front end of each. Try to place the boards in the most level space you can.

As soon as each player has thrown four bags, you and your opponent(s) will switch turns. The winner of the previous frame gets to throw first in the following one. If no one scores, the team or individual who threw first in the previous frame will do so in the following one.

Here are answers to a few common questions about cornhole gameplay:

  • Where do you stand when throwing? There is an imaginary pitcher’s box adjacent to the board, three feet wide and running the length of the board. When throwing, you must keep within this area.
  • How far can you step forward when throwing? The foul line is located at the front of the box. When throwing, your body cannot cross that boundary.
  • Can you stand behind the boards to throw? No, as this is not within the pitcher’s mound. What’s the point of having to throw farther, anyway?
  • Do you have to throw underhand? All players are required to deliver the bags using an underhand release, according the American Cornhole Game Organisation (ACO).

Cornhole Game Scoring

Traditionally, cornhole is played to 21 points. You are awarded:

  • 3 points if the bag goes through the hole
  • 1 point for bags that hit and remain on the board

Points are kept according to cancellation scoring. Here is an example scenario:

  • The Red Team scores five points in the opening frame on one bag through the hole and two bags on the board, while
  • the Blue Team scores seven points on two bags through the hole and one bag on the board.
  • The Blue Team must deduct the Red Team’s five points from their score, giving them a total of two points, as opposed to the score being Blue Team 7, Red Team 5. As a result, after that frame, the score would be Blue Team 2, Red Team 0.

Bags that hit the ground first and then slide onto the board do not count for any points.

Some claim that in order to win, you must receive precisely 21 points; if you receive more than that, your score is cut to 11. Others assert that you need to win by two. The ACO contends that this is untrue. The winner is always the first team to achieve 21 at the conclusion of a frame Cornhole Game.

Of course, as long as you’re not taking part in an official competition, you’re free to include any restrictions you choose.

Playing Tips

How can you become a better Cornhole Game player? Here are a few tips to keep in mind the next time you pick up a bean bag.

  • Think Small: You’re more likely to throw an incorrectly thrown bag when you concentrate on getting every bag through the hole. Aim towards the front of the board instead since there is a good probability that several of your throws will slip into the hole. And if they don’t, your bag need to be strategically placed to prevent your opponent from gaining access to the hole.
  • Spins Equal Wins: The majority of the best Cornhole Game players in the world don’t just throw the bag; instead, they give it some flair by throwing it “flat” or “pancake” style. In essence, the bag will spin with a modest downward inclination, horizontal to the ground. The likelihood that the bag will glide into the hole is increased by this method. When releasing the bag, maintain your wrist straight and spin it with your fingers rather of using your wrist like you would when tossing a Frisbee.
  • Keep Your Cool: Try your best to remain unhurried and have fun. Your performance usually suffers when you’re stressed.
