Emily Blunt Biography

Emily Blunt, whose full name is Emily Olivia Leah Blunt, was a British-American actress well-known for her sharply drawn portrayals of women from various walks of life. She was born on February 23, 1983, in London, England.

After receiving critical and widespread praise for her scene-stealing performance in The Devil Wears Prada (2006), she quickly gained starring roles in various films, including The Young Victoria (2009).

Blunt was the second of a former actress and a lawyer’s four children. Through acting classes, she conquered her stammer and discovered her place on stage.

She had first planned to serve as a live translator for the UN. However, Blunt’s performance in a student production of the musical Bliss at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2000 drew the attention of an agent. Later, in 2001, she appeared in a West End production of The Royal Family alongside Judi Dench.

The following year, Blunt played Juliet in a Chichester Festival production of Romeo and Juliet. She first gained recognition for her portrayal as Isolda in the Boudicca biopic Warrior Queen (2003). Subsequently, she played supporting parts in many television shows, including Foyle’s War (2003), Empire (2005), and Gideon’s Daughter (2005).

For the latter performance, she won a Golden Globe for best-supporting actress in a television series, miniseries, or motion picture. Her sensitive and nuanced portrayal of a teenage lesbian in the 2004 film My Summer of Love received high appreciation.

Following her performance in The Devil Wears Prada, when she faced off against Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, Blunt moved into supporting roles in movies like The Jane Austen Book Club and Charlie Wilson’s War (both 2007).

The dark comedy Sunshine Cleaning (2008), about two sisters who start a crime scene cleanup company, was the next film in which she starred alongside Amy Adams. Her performance as Queen Victoria in The Young Victoria demonstrated her filmmaking prowess.

Blunt soon obtained leading roles in films, including Salmon Fishing in Yemen (2011), a comedy-drama about a vain attempt to bring salmon to Yemen. She also provided the voice of the love lead in the animated blockbusters Gnomeo and Juliet (2011) and Sherlock Gnomes (2012). (2018).

After joining the cast of the 2012 time-travel thriller Looper, Blunt played a sergeant in Edge of Tomorrow, a different time-travel movie with more action. The 2014 Disney production of the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods featured her singing. She later received praise for her performance as an FBI agent in the dark crime film Sicario (2015).

Blunt won top billing for her performance as a regal queen in The Huntsman: Winter’s War with Charlize Theron in 2016. Later that year, in the movie adaptation of Pamela Hawkins’ best-selling book The Girl on the Train, Blunt played an alcoholic divorcee who may have committed murder.

She also provided voices for the animated comedies Animal Crackers and My Little Pony: The Movie, based on the famous TV show. When Blunt starred in the 2018 horror film A Quiet Place, about a young family trying to survive in a world overrun by monsters that kill at any sound, she demonstrated the breadth of her acting abilities.

Blunt reprised her role in the follow-up movie, A Quiet Place Part II, directed by her husband, John Krasinski, whom she married in 2010.

Blunt played the titular nanny in Mary Poppins Returns (2018), earning praise for a “practically faultless in every way” portrayal.

Later, she co-starred with Dwayne Johnson in the action comedy Jungle Cruise (2021), which was based on a theme park attraction, and Jon Hamm in the dramedy Wild Mountain Thyme (2020). Blunt starred as a British aristocrat seeking vengeance in the 1890s in the violent western TV miniseries The English in 2022.
