Pulwama attack: Digvijaya criticises the government for a “blatant intelligence failure,” while PM Modi pays tribute to the Pulwama martyrs

As many as 40 members of the CRPF were killed on February 14 in a terror attack by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

On the fourth anniversary of the Pulwama attack, the country paid respects to the forty CRPF members killed. Still, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh reiterated the opposition’s oft-repeated claim that the attack resulted from an intelligence failure on the part of the Modi government.

Today, we pay homage to the 40 CRPF Martyrs who died because of the blatant Intelligence Failure in Pulwama. I hope all the Martyred Families have been suitably rehabilitated,” tweeted Singh.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister’s tweet comes nearly a month after he made a statement about the same attack and the 2016 surgical strikes in Jammu and Kashmir during the final leg of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Forty members of our CRPF were killed in Pulwama. Officials from the CRPF asked for the airlifting of personnel, but Prime Minister Modi declined. How did such mistakes happen? Parliament has not yet received a report on Pulwama.” On January 23, Singh made this claim in front of a large crowd in Jammu.

The Congress veteran had claimed there was “no proof” regarding the surgical strikes in September 2016, executed by the Indian Army’s special forces in response to the Uri terror attack on an army camp that month. He also accused the Modi government of “spreading lies” regarding the surgical strikes.

The grand old party had distanced itself even as the ruling BJP went after Singh, who is prone to making controversial remarks. Jairam Ramesh, the party’s head of communications, said that Digvijaya’s views were his own and did not represent the party’s position.

The Army “does not need to give proof of its actions,” according to Rahul Gandhi, who also referred to the remark as “ridiculous.”

On February 14, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the members of the CRPF who lost loved ones in a terrorist attack on their convoy in Pulwama on that day in 2019.

He tweeted,Remembering our valorous heroes who we lost on this day in Pulwama. We will never forget their supreme sacrifice. Their courage motivates us to build a strong and developed India.”

A suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into the CRPF convoy, killing over 40 soldiers.

In retaliation, the Indian Air Force attacked terror camps in Pakistan’s Balakot.
