The Girl Scouts announced Tuesday that billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott had given $84.5 million to the group.
The 52-year-old Scott, formerly married to Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, made the largest single donation in the charity’s history, according to the organisation.
Mackenzie Scott’s Net Worth
Scott’s net worth is around $27.6 billion by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a daily list of the 500 wealthiest individuals in the world, making her the 41st richest person. She promised to donate roughly half of her $35 billion fortune to charities after she and Bezos split in 2019.
According to a press statement from the organization, Scott’s donation will benefit Girl Scouts of the USA and 29 local councils that Scott hand-picked.

The Fund
People will utilise the funding, among other things. To improve “more equitable membership opportunities” in underserved regions. To increase programming for career readiness, mental health, and STEM field exploration, support staff and volunteer training, and modernise Girl Scout facilities to make them more accessible and climate-change resistant.
Scott’s contribution is “a fantastic accelerator for our ongoing efforts to help girls acquire the skills and relationships needed to lead in their local communities and globally,” according to Sofia Chang, the Girl Scouts’ first Asian American CEO.
Girl Scouts
According to its website, the Girl Scouts, founded in 1912, provide nearly 2.5 million members, including transgender girls, with troops, service projects, camps, and other opportunities to develop leadership and other skills.
