King Charles’ Coronation To Take Place On May 6, 2023

King Charles’ official coronation is yet to take place. He ascended to the throne upon passing his mother, Queen Elizabeth. The information of King Charles’ Coronation to take place on May 6, 2023, is as per reports.

King Charles’ Coronation

It is just under seven months from now, according to an announcement made this week by Buckingham Palace. But historically, coronations take place even later than a year after a person becomes a monarch. Here is why the King chose to hold his ceremony earlier than usual.

Even though it seems like a long time, Queen Elizabeth’s crowning moment took place on June 2, 1953. It was 16 months after she became the monarch. People believed that Charles would celebrate his, too, on June 2, in memory of the Queen.

Reason Behind The Chosen Date

According to the Mirror, the new King chose an earlier date to avoid overshadowing his mother’s historic anniversary. The new time will be less than eight months after his inauguration.

Other members of the Royal Family do have a connection to May 6. Archie, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who will be four, just so happens to have his birthday on that day. It also happens to be Princess Margaret, the late Queen’s sister wedding’s anniversary.

About The Coronation Ceremony

Compared to his predecessors, the King is reportedly planning a smaller coronation. According to experts, it might just last an hour. It is as opposed to the standard three hours. There might be less than 2,000 guests as opposed to 8,000.

There will also be a specific dress code. Visitors will dress in suits and dresses rather than ceremonial robes. Additionally, he has abandoned several rites. The event will, however, “be based in long-standing traditions and pageantry. “It will “represent the monarch’s role today and look toward the future,” according to the Palace.
