Star Wars veteran John Boyega will soon return to his first sci-fi realm rather than picking up a lightsaber and heading back to the galaxy far away anytime soon.
The 2011 critically acclaimed independent sci-fi film Attack the Block finally received a sequel more than ten years later. It gave the British actor his big break before a blip on the First Order’s radar.
John Boyega On Attack the Block 2
Boyega, 30, has provided some brand-new details on what to expect from Attack the Block 2 and where it will find his character, former teenage hoodlum Moses, all these years later. The news that Boyega was returning to defend London from a new invasion of predatory aliens was first revealed in May 2021.
A member of the cast of The Woman King said during an interview with Deadline that the sequel will examine how the UK capital has “changed between the first movie and now,” taking into account the 2011 London Riots and the city’s growing gentrification.
John Boyega’s Statements
Boyega stated: “We revisit the Southwark and Walworth in south London, formerly seedy neighbourhoods, and discover that they are now home to shining, upscale apartments and Starbucks. We’ll embark on a vast journey into a brand-new universe while developing and revisiting these characters.”
The original movie, which also contains comedy and horror, told the story of a typical London tower block being attacked by ferocious extraterrestrials, forcing Moses and his gang to play the role of heroes to defend their home. Boyega wasn’t the only aspiring sci-fi star in the ensemble; Jodie Whittaker from Doctor Who also made an appearance.
Boyega is the only original cast member still on board, joining writer/director Joe Cornish. He is also similarly attached as a producer and co-writer. Even though Attack the Block 2 has not yet begun filming, it appears like it is about to.
