ICC Cricket T20 World Cup 2022 Schedule

ICC Men’s cricket T20 World Cup 2022, the 8th T20 cricket world cup, has been scheduled between 16 Oct 2022 and 13 Nov 2022 in Australia. Initially, the tournament was to be held in India in Oct and Nov 2021, However, in July 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the tournament had been postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19. In Aug 2020, the ICC reaffirmed that Australia would host the 2022 tournament and India will host  T20 World Cup 2020 in 2021.

A total of 16 teams are part of ICC T20 World Cup 2022. 8 teams have already qualified for the Super 12 round. They are England, New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

India is part of Group 2 in T20 World Cup 2022. Three other teams part of group 2 are Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh. Two more teams will join the group after the first round. England, New Zealand, Australia, and Afghanistan are part of group 1.

After the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup had to be canceled because of the Covid-19 induced pandemic, Australia was not ready to host the 2021 edition. Therefore, it proposed India swap the rights of the tournament. Thereafter, the T20 World Cup was organized in the UAE by BCCI. Cricket Australia got the postponed version of 2020 edition scheduled for 2022.

During the super 12 round, there are two groups of 6 teams each. Each team will collide with the other teams of their group once. After the completion of the super 12 round, the top two teams from each group in the points table will qualify for the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will lock horns in the final.

After the match against Pakistan, India is next slated to face the runner-up from Group A (first round) on Oct 27 in Sydney. On Oct 30, India will be up against South Africa in Perth, followed by Nov 2-clash against Bangladesh in Adelaide.

Pakistan recorded their first win over India in World Cups last year in Dubai when they beat Virat Kohli’s team quite emphatically. India will be gunning to set the record stage in Australia.

The two teams have faced each other a total of six times in the history of the men’s T20 World Cup, with India winning five of those matches of ICC.

Defending champions Australia will kick-off their title defense campaign against their finalists and trans-Tasman neighbors New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Oct 22.

Sri Lanka and Namibia are grouped in Group A of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers, while two-time champions West Indies will be joined by Scotland in Group B. Four additional teams will be added to the two groups.

Cricket Australia exchanged the hosting rights with BCCI, who staged the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Australia won their maiden T20 World Cup title as they beat Kane Williamson-led New Zealand by eight wickets in the final on Nov 14.

In the Super 12, hosts Australia is in Group 1 with world number one England, New Zealand, Afghanistan, plus the winner of Group A and the runner-up in Group B from the First Round. Group 2 features India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, plus the winner of Group B and runner-up in Group A from the First Round.

International Cricket Council CEO Geoff Allardice said:

The release of fixtures is always a great moment in the delivery of a World Cup as fans start to get excited about opening games, head to head, and knock-out stages.
