The American actress Brie Larson, born Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers on October 1, 1989, in Sacramento, California, earned an Academy Award for her powerful and understated portrayal of a young lady who has been abducted and held captive by a sexual predator in the indie film Room (2015).
Her parents, who supported her early theatrical aspirations, primarily homeschooled Larson. As a small child, she appeared in a mock advertisement on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Throughout her childhood, she also appeared in guest roles on other T.V. shows, including a 1999 episode of Touched by an Angel. She also appeared as the character’s daughter in the 2001–2002 sitcom Raising Dad. Larson recorded the teen pop album Finally Out of P.E. in 2005 after being cast as a teen drag racer in the 2003 Disney Channel T.V. film Right on Track.
In the acclaimed 2009–11 T.V. series United States of Tara, Larson was recast as the title character’s daughter. She gained attention during that period for her small role in Scott Pilgrim vs the World (2010).

Before taking on her first leading role and adult role in Short Term 12, Larson played teenagers in the comedies 21 Jump Street (2012) and the crime thriller Rampart (2011). In Short Term 12, she also played a supervisor in a group home for troubled teens.
Before Room, she starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in The Gambler (2014) and Amy Schumer in Trainwreck (2015). In addition to her Oscar, Larson also received awards from the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs for her performance in the movie, which was adapted from an Emma Donoghue novel published in 2010.
The highly coveted Larson starred in several movies in 2017, including the King Kong remake Kong: Skull Island and the drama The Glass Castle, which dealt with a dysfunctional family.
With the film Unicorn Store, in which she starred as a twenty-something unicorn-obsessed woman, she also made her directorial debut. In the 2019 films Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, she later portrayed Carol Danvers, an American Air Force pilot who transforms into a superhero. The drama Just Mercy, about a civil-rights lawyer’s attempts to save an innocent man on death row, was one of Larson’s other projects that year.
