Elon Musk’s Twitter discontinues the “Twitter for iPhone” and “Twitter for Android” device labels.

Twitter users applaud Elon Musk for levelling the playing field for all users by removing the superfluous label. Some disagreed with the choice, claiming it would be difficult to distinguish spam tweets from automated accounts.

The name of the operating system—iPhone, Android, or Twitter web—through which the tweet was published on the platform was listed on the origin device label, which Twitter has since removed. This is in response to Elon Musk, its new leader, making a suggestion to delete it last month, saying it was a “waste of screen space and computation.”

Elon Musk’s Twitter discontinues

Musk gave a pretty cryptic response on Sunday to a post on the microblogging website informing users of the change. He wrote on Twitter, “Hallelujah!” (sic). He responded to a tweet from the user PubityIG, who had written: “Twitter has made it impossible to determine what device a tweet originated from. (Twitter for Android and the iPhone).”

This is regarded as a cost-cutting move on Twitter’s part. Musk had previously emphasised that it is a waste of screen space and computer resources to show what device a tweet originated from beneath each tweet.

And we will finally stop including the device that a tweet was written on below each tweet (wastes screen space & compute),” he added. No one even really understands why we did that. (sic).

Twitter users applauded Musk for levelling the playing field for all users by removing the pointless title. Some disagreed with the choice, claiming it would be difficult to distinguish spam tweets from automated accounts.

While this is going on, the Indian competitor social media company Koo has declared that it will not charge users for a verification badge and has offered to move all of a Twitter user’s previous tweets to its site.
