Netflix Games: How to unlock Netflix’s free games

Since its early days of shipping DVDs to consumers, Netflix Games has come a long way. The business is a clear leader in the entertainment sector, creating its own material in addition to streaming movies and TV episodes from other studios.

Unbeknownst to many, the platform stealthily launched its next significant foray into the field of mobile video games in 2021, and the titles on offer are shockingly excellent.

Therefore, you’ve come to the perfect spot if you’re sick of browsing through countless titles or want to take a break from binge-watching series and movies.

What are Netflix games?

Netflix Games

Netflix users have free access to a selection of premium mobile games called Netflix Games. On iOS and Android devices, the library now offers more than 50 games. They may be downloaded directly from the Netflix app or the app store on your smartphone.

The games span a variety of genres, including mini-golf games like Wonderputt Forever, hidden object games like Krispee Street, and fantasy rogue card games like Arcanium.

Despite the fact that certain games, such Stranger Things 3: The Game and Narcos: Cartel Wars Unlimited, are based on popular Netflix original series, the majority of them are unrelated to any specific Netflix content.

What you need to play Netflix games

Netflix Games

In order to play Netflix games, you will need:

1. An active Netflix subscription

You must have an active Netflix membership of any tier in order to play Netflix games. There are no advertisements, in-app purchases, or other hidden fees, and the games are free for all subscribers. All games support other languages in addition to English.

2. Updated software on your device

Your device must run iOS/iPadOS 15 or later or Android 8.0 or later in order to play Netflix games. To install the games on your smartphone or tablet, you’ll also need extra storage space.

3. An non-Kids profile on Netflix

All Netflix profiles can access the games on numerous devices, with the exception of those with Netflix Kids experiences (PG maximum rating). Games that meet or fall below the chosen maturity rating level will only be displayed in profiles that have been set up with maturity rating settings. For instance, profiles with a 13+ maturity setting won’t see games with a 16+ mature rating.

Additionally, you will need to play any Netflix games that you downloaded from the app store on your device using the PIN you specified for your profile.

3. A decent internet connection

In order to access and download Netflix games, you must be online. Additionally, certain Netflix games may require an internet connection to function properly, whilst others may be played without one. You can see the connectivity requirements for each game on its website so you can prepare before downloading.

Why did Netflix start making games?

Given that the video game business is one of the most lucrative entertainment sectors and that the mobile gaming market is anticipated to increase by 9.16% (or 12.8 billion USD) between 2022 and 2023, it should come as no surprise that Netflix wants a piece of the gaming action.

However, Netflix didn’t just decide to move toward gaming at random. Netflix, formerly the king of original programming, is now up against fierce competition from streaming competitors with more affordable membership costs and well-liked original programs. Following the company’s announcement that it will tighten down on account sharing and add commercials to a lower-priced tier, Netflix also temporarily lost hundreds of thousands of customers in 2022. However, it more than made up for the loss by the end of the year.

A tactic to help Netflix stay current, diversify, and strive to maintain its ephemeral consumer base by giving them more value was the entry into the gaming market. The sole issue? Nobody actually engages in Netflix game play.

Less than 1% of subscribers to the streaming service actually play its free games, according to a recent Apptopia analysis. Over 23 million people have downloaded games from Netflix to date, and 1.7 million people play them everyday on average. Despite looking fantastic on paper, that only accounts for a small portion of Netflix’s 221.6 million subscribers.

To be fair, the majority of Netflix subscribers probably don’t actually know the games exist, and that’s likely because the process you’ve got to go through to play Netflix games is not very straightforward.

But don’t let that stop you.
