Academy establishes a “crisis team” in response to the Will Smith Slapgate to handle mishaps.

The 95th Academy Awards are set for this Sunday, but organizers are bracing for the unexpected after Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock left Hollywood’s biggest awards to show in a state of disarray the previous year.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has established a crisis squad for the first time to handle any catastrophes.

In a recent interview with Time magazine, Academy CEO Bill Kramer said, “We hope that we will be prepared for anything. “Thanks to last year, we’ve become more open-minded about the wide range of potential Oscars outcomes.”

Will Smith Slapgate

After confronting Rock on stage over a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, Rock was given the best actor award, and the film academy received harsh criticism for allowing Smith to accept the award while still in the crowd.

The corporation has not disclosed any details regarding the make-up of the crisis team or its potential response to anything unusual. Smith won’t be attending. He was forbidden to attend the event for ten years.

The Academy’s president, Janet Yang, stated that people should expect nothing less from the organisation moving forward because the organisation had learned how to react “swiftly, compassionately, and forcefully” in times of crisis.

Strict security is in place at the Dolby Théâtre, where the ceremony is hosted. Law enforcement has blocked off numerous streets around the red carpet and theatre.

The show’s producers, Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, expressed their desire to continue highlighting the year’s nominated films and the people who helped make them come to life.

Nobody, according to Weiss, is particularly trying to focus too much on what has already occurred.

The ABC network, owned by Walt Disney Co., will air the programme.

Many of the biggest box office successes of 2022 are included in the field of best picture contenders, a change from recent years when the Academy nominated a lot of obscure movies. “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Elvis,” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is a few examples.

We’re there to amuse people and to highlight this year’s outstanding films, many of which have already been watched, which is fantastic for us, said Kirshner.

Similar to past award shows, the Oscars have recently seen a fall in viewership, especially among younger individuals who are avid social media users. According to Weiss, the cast planned to sprinkle the programme with moments they believed would go viral on Twitter and TikTok.

The Grammy-nominated song “Lift Me,” performed by pop icon Rihanna, will be played. Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne, and the band Son Lux will perform the song “This is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere”.

The singers of the song “Natuu Natuu” for the Indian action film “RRR,” Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, will also be there.

Jimmy Kimmel, a comedian who helped clear up the mistake in 2017 when the wrong best-picture award was given, will once again headline the show.
